New Movie Website and Blog Explore the Deeper Side of Films

Houma, LA (PRWEB) May 2, 2009 — Mike Movie is a film fanatic, pure and simple. He enjoys movie and looks into the subtext and meaning behind what is projected on celluloid for the rest of the world to see. When Movie decided to start his own business, he naturally looked to start a movie website.

In March 2009, Movie simultaneously launched www.MikesMovieMania.com and its companion blog, MikesMovieManiaBlog.com, the inspiration of which came from Movie's own love of movies.

"I wanted to do something different with reviews," he said. "I wanted to describe to the readers the essence of the movie. I want to talk about dramatics and themes. I want to know how these movies moved them."

Opening up his blog to other writers, Movie hopes to have other people join him in contributing their reviews on films that have been released by leaving comments, or becoming an author on the blog.

Likewise, readers who are intrigued by the reviews can go to his e-store, MikesMovieMania.com, where they can legally download and/or buy movies.

"We have movies on demand through the web store," Movie explained. "In the future, we're hoping to add TV downloads, but for the moment, feature films are my focus."

The web store also carries a selection of standard DVD players and Blu-ray DVD players.

At the end of the day, however, Movie is insistent that his goals are more about sharing thoughts about movies with other people, via www.MikesMovieManiaBlog.com and his newsletter, than anything else.

"People have a forum and a chance to talk about why they may have disliked a movie or why they fell in love with it," he said.

"Through the blog and newsletter, we're letting people know what's new with the website and we're able to recommend good movies to watch."

Emmy, Golden Globe Winning TV Writer Makes it Big in Nuldoid

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 2, 2009 — To say that TV writer/producer Russ Woody is a big wheel in Hollywood may not be an overstatement. If he isn't one, he's for sure writing about one. With his first novel, The Wheel of Nuldoid, Woody combines his fertile imagination and experience of years of writing for television to create a fantasy world reminiscent of The Hobbit.

Nuldoid, however, is inhabited by Nuldoids, surprisingly enough…diminutive creatures whose personalities have little in common with Tolkien's more affable, well mannered, Hobbits. Plainly spoken–they're known to be cranky and disagreeable.

Tied into Northern California history, specifically the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, the story tells of two Nuldoids, who, thanks to a fissure in the earth, retrieve a crystal in Golden Gate Park with the intention of delivering it to a location in Nuldoid, hundreds of miles below the earth's surface. Oh, by the way, they mug and kidnap a Crustoid (human surface dweller) to assist them in their quest…their quest to save the world from destruction.

"The whole adventure with Nuldoid has been pretty wild for me, both writing it and sharing it with young adults, especially my two sons, Henry and Joe. My dilemma was that I couldn't really write it JUST for kids, I had to write it with a subtext that would appeal to adults as well… since that's what I am, and since I had to read and reread the thing maybe a few hundred kazillion times."

Woody got his start in "Show Biz" as an intern writing a comedy segment for a daily TV magazine program in Sacramento. The Bella Vista High School grad followed his dream to Tinsel Town, where he wrote for St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues and wrote and produced notable shows such as Murphy Brown, Mad About You, Cybill, Becker and The Drew Carey Show, garnering an Emmy and Golden Globe along the way.

The Wheel of Nuldoid includes Notes for Book Club discussions. Those notes are also available on the web site: http://www.nuldoid.com/67555.html

U.S. Military Opens the Door to Social Media Use by Active Duty Personnel

Phoenix, AZ (Vocus) April 25, 2010 — Recent policy changes by the US Department of Defense, (DOD), provide a new approach to the use of social media by military personnel. Announced in early 2010, the DOD, now approves and, in fact, encourages the use of social media by rank and file military.

Why this significant change? Former Special Operations soldier, with three tours to Iraq under his belt, David Johnson believes the policy change is long overdue. He states, “The stress experienced by the military is extreme, both on the battlefield and even in transitioning to civilian life.” In an effort to provide assistance and support to current and past military, and family members Johnson has founded the first of its kind – a social media website exclusively designed for US Military and supporters called ArmedZilla.com.

The numbers are significant. There are approximately 2.3 million members of the Armed Forces and over 24 million veterans in the U.S. Considering these numbers, the ability of service members to connect with friends and like-minded individuals has been limited…until now.

The Department of Defense policy change acknowledges the advantage to those serving and maintaining connections with family, friends and peers. Technology allows a movement across the web, and the government believes that it is psychological desirable for personnel to maintain contact. A step further, the DOD policy allows users to access social media from non-classified government computers, as long as there is no compromise to operational security or use of prohibited sites.

A subtext of this policy change, according to David Johnson, founder of ArmedZilla.com, is the stress military personnel undergo when returning from a tour of duty or transitioning to civilian life. “The reality is that it is not always the happy homecoming one would expect,” says Johnson.

The Veterans Administration has studied the psychological issues extensively. According to a recent study, “Evidence suggests that returning to work with one’s cohort group during wartime can facilitate the improvement of symptoms from stress. Although their wishes may or may not be granted, service members often have strong feelings about wanting or not wanting to return to war.”

S.A. Yerkes, & H.C. Holloway, in their article, “War and homecomings: The stressors of war and of returning from war,” state that, “The deployment of the family member creates a painful void within the family system that is eventually filled (or denied) so that life can go on…The family assumes that their experiences at home and the soldier’s activities on the battlefield will be easily assimilated by each other at the time of reunion and that the pre-war roles will be resumed. The fact that new roles and responsibilities may not be given up quickly upon homecoming is not anticipated.”

There are some personal difficulties that reach a state of psychological concern, such as (PTSD) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. For many, the transition is less severe; however, it is still a concern. For example, David Johnson found that on separation from active duty he missed the structure the army provided, even though he had served in a fluid and volatile environment in Iraq. As he attended college after leaving the service, he confronted the desire to reenlist due to the military environment he was missing. After discussing his feelings with several former soldiers, he began to research ways to reach out to others. He spent time investigating the use of Facebook and other social mediums as a platform for his ideas. Johnson discovered that nothing was specifically designed for interactive use for the military in which he shared common interests and concerns.

Then, he decided to take a new approach with a site custom designed to provide the level of support and connectivity he believed was needed. The site www.ArmedZilla.com has been beta tested at a local level with an overwhelmingly positive response. He is now rolling out the site for worldwide use. Local Phoenix shows, Good Morning Arizona and Channel 3 have interviewed Johnson and featured the breakthrough in Social Media twice in the past month.

According to Johnson, “We have built what we believe is a true social support system for current military personnel and vets. We offer a discussion forum, a bulletin board for posting events along with wants and needs, also the ability to form special groups, post information to help with relevant issues, a proprietary ISU – Installation Update Specific section and more.” ArmedZilla has a team of talented people ready to develop new applications as they receive feedback from our “member community.”

ArmedZilla.com fills an important gap. It not only allows friends and family to keep in touch, but it is a social support system that can be fulfilled by those who have the same experience and Military background.

Stan Lee’s All-New Stripperella to Debut on iPhone

Kansas City, Mo., and Los Angeles (PRWEB) July 24, 2009 – There's a sexy new comic book heroine set to reveal herself exclusively to iPhone and iPod Touch users, and this scantily clad adventurer, with a popular, familiar name, is bringing her exploits to life in this direct-to-iPhone release.

Legendary comic book creator Stan Lee, partnered with Universal Uclick, America's No. 1 distributor of comics online and on mobile, has announced an all-new version of one of his most sizzling creations, Stripperella. The sultry super-heroine stars in an original four-volume comic book series written by Lee with art by Anthony Winn available only on the App Store.

Exotica Jones, the new incarnation of the motorcycle-riding exotic dancer who fights crime as Stripperella, makes her eye-popping debut in this all-new made-for-mobile comic book series debuting exclusively on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

"Some people think Stripperella is merely a far-out fantasy featuring a torrid, whistle-bait pin-up," said Lee. "But thoughtful readers look beneath Stripperella's frivolous façade and recognize a scholarly, psychological analysis of today's complex male/female relationships with cogent commentary within the sophisticated subtext. Congratulations to Universal Uclick and POW! for Stripperella, the perfect cerebral companion for the thinking man."

"Stripperella is an eye-catching super heroine, and comic fans will appreciate that Stan Lee, master comics craftsman that he is, has injected this series with a madcap spirit that makes it a thoroughly entertaining read," said Universal Uclick President and Editor Lee Salem. "This mature-audiences series – available exclusively in the App Store – is uncommonly, unabashedly, undeniably fun. It's exactly the kind of all-out entertainment fans have come to expect from the most well-known innovator in comics."

Longtime fans of the cheeky heroine will note that POW! Entertainment has updated the character's original design from the adult-oriented cartoon series that marked Stripperella's worldwide cable television debut in 2003. But while she sports a new look, iPhone and iPod Touch users can rest assured that the famous curves, tongue-in-cheek humor and "bombshell" status that made Stripperella stand out from the pack remain perfectly intact.

"We started by repurposing print comics for the iPhone. It has always been our intention to bring original content, created exclusively for mobile consumption, to the marketplace," said Salem.

To get Stripperella and other favorite comic books, graphic novels, webcomics and manga for the iPhone and iPod touch go to www.StripperellaApp.com or visit the App Store on the iPhone or on iTunes.

Music Maker Takes Serious Tone DJ Timbo, Normally the life of the Party, is Stepping away from the Lampshade

Los Angeles — Tim Scarne is preaching to no one, but he is putting his money where his mouth is and walking the talk. Scarne, whose stage name is DJ Timbo, is dedicating his latest single, "Friendly Addiction: Chasing the A.M." in memory of his recently deceased peer Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ A.M.

Goldstein was found dead earlier this summer from a drug overdose.

Fifty percent of the singles sales will go towards the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Adam's name, and Scarne will hop on the sobriety wagon for 36 weeks as a gesture of respect to the 36 year old Adam. The song is an abstract reflection of his experiences both as a recovering addict and someone who lives in the limelight.

Scarne's two other singles, "GoGo Girl" and "I'm a F**king Celebrity" are satirical takes on Hollywood life and the absurdity of fame. Both were top 40 hits with "Girl" climbing as high as #10 on Billboard's Dance Charts. "Friendly Addiction" takes a more serious tone, with pulsing beats and a subtext through abstract lyrics not typically heard in pop music.

"First Michael Jackson, then DJ A.M. It was like a one two punch. Adam was someone that I always looked up to as the barometer to measure my success as a DJ," says Scarne. "He was on top of the world. The fact that we lost him so young just seems like such a slight to those of us who respected his talent. And to drugs, that's even worse."

Scarne is fully aware that suggesting his audience, many of them 24-hour party people, follow his lead may be risky business. Besides, as Scarne used marijuana and experimented with LSD and Ecstasy until his family intervened, he feels that would be calling the pot kettle black.

"I was a teenager still living with my parents at the time," he recalls. "My mom gave me a choice: I could clean up my act or I was out on the streets!"

It was tough love that sent Scarne into the world of private party DJ'ing where drug use was simply not acceptable if he were to maintain a career. He went onto become one of the most sought out entertainers in Los Angeles and soon nationwide. If you were planning a Bar-Mitzvah, chances are you knew who DJ Timbo was.

Scarne first started paying attention to DJ A.M.'s career around 2002, when he noticed that he was the DJ for one of Steven Spielberg's kids Bar-Mitzvah.

"I thought he was the coolest," says Scarne. "Nobody will ever know what could have saved Adam, but it's terribly ironic that he was asked to be the spokesperson for an MTV show about interventions."

"Friendly Addiction: Chasing the A.M." is now available for download on iTunes.

Arbita, TalentSpring Team Up To Publish White Paper on Semantic Sourcing

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) September 28, 2009 -– Why does Semantic Search outperform Boolean Search for recruiting? Many recruiters wonder why, but they can’t get a clear answer. That’s why Arbita, a leading provider of recruitment marketing technology, media planning and consulting services, has teamed up with TalentSpring, a provider of Semantic Search technology products for the recruiting industry, to create the white paper, “Semantic Search: Sourcing Success Beyond Boolean Search,” that is available to download now. (http://www.talentspring.com/Whitepapers/Recruiting-Semantic-Search?campaign=70140000000A2VH)

Even though many recruiters already use Boolean search strings to find and place the most qualified candidates, a revolution in Internet search is under way in the form of Semantic Search that changes the ‘keyword’ focus of electronic sourcing to the ‘actual’ meaning found within resumes and job descriptions. Two of the leaders in online search today, Shally Steckerl of Arbita and Bryan Starbuck of TalentSpring, have teamed up to author this paper and explain to recruiters how these search techniques can improve quality and reduce time-to-fill and cost.

“Many expert communities talk about Semantic Search applications being the most likely technology to deliver this kind of result, but few take the time to explain it in plain language,” said Steckerl. “This free white paper explains Semantic Search for candidate sourcing.” (http://www.talentspring.com/Whitepapers/Recruiting-Semantic-Search?campaign=70140000000A2VH)

These new approaches and advanced tools that leverage Semantic Search technology can transform the way you source candidates if you understand how to use them. This paper will help recruiters:

+ Understand semantic search fundamentals: Find out how to use equivalent keyword matches, soft keywords and other basics to help you find hidden candidates.

+ Discover different semantic search approaches: See how Lexicon, Statistical Analysis and Conceptual Search each extract meaning and subtext in different ways.

+ Identify appropriate semantic search technologies: Whether you are looking for a high-end solution or just a free one, the list of products and the RFP checklist will help you find the right solution for you and your firm.

“While semantic search engines are highly effective at finding relational matches between job descriptions and resumes, they still need to be highly focused,” said Starbuck. “For example, there is a big difference between the jobs, pay, and responsibilities of a Construction Project Manager and a Project Manager that works at Microsoft. However, to a search engine, the two job descriptions look very similar. Good Semantic Search engines will provide a simple way to fine-tune search parameters.”

Find out more about how semantic search can improve your performance, decrease your time-to-fill, reduce costs and increase quality. What Girls Want When They Talk to You

I consider myself a generally smart and savvy guy. I’m good at listening, and I give good advice. So you can imagine how frustrated and surprised I would become in college when my female friends would tell me to shut up and just listen to them. Why were they telling me their problems if they didn’t want advice? Even worse, sometimes my girlfriends would seem to be speaking Orwellian Doublespeak. They’d say one thing, and mean another, or ask me questions I couldn’t possibly answer correctly. What was going on? What was I missing? Luckily, I’ve figured out a few things since college, so here’s the low-down on what girls generally mean when they want to talk.

Back in college I had a great friend called Mara. Great in that she was very patient with me. She was telling me some drama she was going through, and I butted in with what I thought was some excellent advice that would solve it. She stared at me, and kindly told me to shut up. She then informed me, speaking slowly as if to a child, that she didn’t want my advice. She didn’t want to know what to do. All she wanted to do was vent. I was a listening wall, supposed to just nod and make noises of commiseration, and she said she’d specifically ask me for advice if she wanted it, otherwise I should just stay quiet. And I realized that was true for most women. One thing they hate is how us guys always want to tell them what to do, cutting them off mid-delivery, giving them simple, effective advice. Wrong! What they want is sympathy and understanding and compassion, not practical advice. So unless your friend specifically asks you what you think she should do? Just listen, pay attention, and be quiet.

Guys are literal. If you ask a dude how he’s doing, and he says, ‘I’m fine,’ then, yes, he’s fine. If you ask a woman how she’s doing, and she says, ‘I’m fine,’ then watch out. Women speak in emotional subtexts. Don’t just listen to the words she says, but rather, focus on the tone. If she says ‘I’m fine,’ with a bright, sunny smile? Then she’s fine. If she says, ‘I’m fine,’ in a clipped, cold way, staring out the window? Big trouble. Listen to the tone. If she sounds sad, then no matter what she says, she is sad. If she tells you she hates you with a grin on her face? Then she means you drive her crazy in a great way.

Which leads us to the trick questions. Girls will often test us men by asking us questions and hoping we understand they mean something else. Basically, they again want you to focus on what really matters, what’s not being said, and not just think about the question literally. If she asks whether you would rather stay home tonight and watch TV then go out to the dinner date you had planned because you’re tired? She’s probably looking for you to rise to the occasion and take her out, and will be upset if you choose to stay home, even though she made it sound like that was fine. Often, ‘We don’t have to” means ‘Show me you want to” Listen to her tone, look at her expression. Almost, almost, ignore the words.

These kind of questions can range from the infamous, ‘Does this sweater make my ass look big?’ to the much more deadly, ‘Do you think we should take some time apart?’ after a fight. Remember. Don’t listen to the words. Don’t be literal. Look at her face, read her expression, listen to her tone. The questions and meaning are never explicit, but implicit. Deduce what she really means from the visual and audible clues. Read what she wants, and answer that need. Which means you have to really learn to listen, to go beyond the words, and focus on what’s important, what she cares about–and what you should care about.

It comes down to a difference between us, literal and straight forward guys, and them, emotional and complex women. This does not mean all women are like this, or even like this all the time; but when it comes to emotional needs, when it comes to relationships, often women will try to get a sense of where you are before putting their own opinions forward. And the way they do this is by drawing you out with questions and statements or even fights that to us feel like tests. But in reality, what they’re doing, is simply figuring us out. And to avoid bungling it all up? We just have to listen really carefully, and figure out what it is they’re figuring out. See? Simple.

Huang Ming: his reliance on others is in denial

Marketers often complain about R & D: R & D products are not personalized, high prices of new products, not competitive enough; have often laughed at marketing R & D staff: know nothing about the new features of the product, there is not a good product will sell. The most basic root cause of this disease is no confidence in themselves, not from the ideological potential of mining itself, does not play their own initiative. But the desire to pursue the good life is no different from ordinary people, when their abilities and realities and aspirations of the range is too large, while the reality is its own abjection of inferiority, while the "spirit of self-defense-type" (look for reasons to complain about outside their own objective circumstances of grievance) of complaints.
Once I give marketers the Train Course, I heard a salesman say: mainly rely on sales Advertisement To drive. At that time I asked this "advertising dependency disorder": the idea is to sell advertising sellers rely solely on it? Do put a million ads, tens of millions of revenue, such enterprises is not never had a result, the number of such enterprises has become cannon fodder enterprise competition? Do not do marketing, not advertising, but what kind of "advertising" the most effective? The two armies met brave victory, so the most confidence in ads and self-motivated ads and award themselves the ad!
Wong Ming was born nearly a million liability, advertising is not a penny, when nearly a hundred companies in this industry has, which easily than of us, some companies have had billions of scale, how do emperor Ming ? Movie Review of Air Force One

Harrison Ford is peerlessly charming and always believable. For this, audiences flock to his movies in droves. It is also the reason that this film succeeds. Air Force One is a movie so ripe with clichés that it itself becomes one. You, dear reader, have been on this ride before, so many times, in fact, that we should all be earning frequent flyer credit card miles for the viewing. However, this film is a prime example of how star power and good acting can transcend the material.
Directed by Wolfgang Petersen (“Das Boot”), Air Force One is essentially a blend of familiar ingredients. Most of the great movie moments involving airplanes, cat-and-mouse chases, hijacking, hostages, politics, the president, and terrorists, are all here in some derivative, easily digestible form. Ford is, as you might have guessed, James Marshall, an ex-Vietnam vet, and the not-so-hapless hapless President of the United States. President Marshall takes a stance over-popularized in 1990s action cinema when he vows, “America will never negotiate with terrorists.”
Gary Oldman plays the leader of a Russian terrorist gang who has just hijacked Air Force One with the President’s family in tow. There are Russian prisoners to free, but Oldman has his work cut out for him. One, the President doesn’t negotiate with terrorists. Two, this archetypal villain role is ridiculous to the point of absurdity, and a lesser actor would likely crumble beneath the sheer weight of it. However, Oldman not only manages to make it work, he manages to breathe enough new life into the character to engage us.
On the ground, Glen Close is the Vice President and she is doing all she can. The role is small, but Close’s performance is nuanced enough to make it matter. A subplot centers on her assuming control of the presidency. At one point, those that matter believe the President dead. A female Vice President as a throwaway choice at a time when this actually seemed progressive could have been disastrous. It is not, and there is subtext that works here in ways we have no right to expect from a blockbuster production.
Air Force One is a spectacle, and the special effects are grand. There are high-altitude explosions, and people running around a high-speed plane in ways that should not be possible. This won’t stand up to the reality sticklers. There is also a bomb to diffuse. Of course, you knew there would be a bomb. There always is. There are five wires this time, and Ford must choose just two. Those odds aren’t good, and usually by that point, you just wouldn’t care. However, it’s a testament to Air Force One that you actually do.
